Coëtivy is an island in the Indian Ocean belonging to the Republic of the Seychelles . It is located about 290 km south of the main island of Mahé and is one of the so-called Outer Islands of the Seychelles. Together with the Île Platte to the north, Coëtivy forms the group of the " Southern Coral Islands ". The island got its name from Chevalier de Coëtivy , who discovered it in 1771.

The flat island, elongated in north-south direction, has an area of 9.31 km² and has about 250 inhabitants.

Coëtivy is privately owned and owned by the Seychelles Marketing Board (SMB) . A large shrimp breeding facility was built on the island from 1989 onwards, and from 1992 onwards, Penaeus monodon ( Giant Tiger Prawns ) shrimps were grown and exported. However, the facility was financially unsustainable and was closed again in 1998.
