Teun Verbruggen
Teun Verbruggen (born April 10, 1975 in Brasschaat ) is a Belgian jazz musician ( drums , electronics ) of the Modern Creative . According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, "he was one of the most creative minds on the Belgian jazz scene".
Live and act
Tenbruggen, who started playing drums at the age of eight and completed two summer courses with Dré Pallemaerts , studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel with Hans van Oosterhout . He then worked in the Jef Neve Trio, in Pascal Schumacher's quartet , with Alexi Tuomarila and in the large-format Flat Earth Society and became a member of VVG ( Vansina , Verbruggen, Gudmundsson ) or Othin Spake (with Mauro Pawlowski and Jozef Dumoulin ). He was involved in Melanie De Biasio's debut album , A Stomach Is Burning (Igloo Records, 2007).
As a band leader, he caused a stir internationally with his prominent "The Bureau of Atomic Tourism". He has also played with Paolo Fresu , Uri Caine , Toots Thielemans , Louis Sclavis , Jimi Tenor , Igor Gehenot , Arve Henriksen and Marcus Wyatt / Ewout Pierreux ( Small World ). He has performed at international festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival , Jazz Middelheim and the Montreal Jazz Festival . He also founds his own label with Rat Records .
Prizes and awards
Tenbruggen was three times winner of the Tremplin jazz competition (with Alexi Tuomarila 2003, Pascal Schumacher 2004 and the Christian Mendoza Band 2010). With Jef Neve, he was awarded the Klara Muziekprijs for recording It's Gone . In 2013 he received the Jazzmozaïek Award .
