Gulli Guðmundsson

Gunlaugur "Gulli" Guðmundsson (* 1971 in Iceland ) is an Icelandic jazz bassist.

Live and act

Gulli Guðmundsson came to the Netherlands in 1993. He studied until 1999 at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Jacques Schols , Hein van de Geyn and Frans van der Hoefen . Since 2003 he has been teaching jazz double bass at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp.

With the DiLiberto - Gesing Quartet he won first prizes at the Dutch Jazz Competition in 1995 and 1997 and at the 23rd International Jazz Competition in Gexco in 1999. In 2000 he toured with the European Jazz Youth Orchestra , with which the album The European Union Jazz Youth Orchestra was created.

He is also a member of Eric Vloeimans ' group Gatecrash , the Florian Zenker - Christian Maske Quartet , the Natasza Kurek Group , the Sanna van Vliet Quartet and the Otterloo Project . He performed in Europe, Canada and Colombia a. a. with Claudio Puntin , Ben Herman , Frank Giebels , John Engels , Stephane Galland , John Marshall , Harry Sokal , Dave Liebman , Bill Dobbins , Ack van Rooyen , Eric Ineke , Jasper van't Hof , Tony Lakatos , Teun Verbruggen , Rob van Bavel , Ben van den Dungen , Martijn Vink and Mike Del Ferro . With his band Binary Orchid (with Arve Henriksen , Jozef Dumoulin , Lieven Venken and Wolfert Brederode ) he mainly performs his own compositions.
