Christiankap (* 1971 in Paderborn ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ), composer , arranger and music teacher .

Kap studied jazz trumpet with a classical minor at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and at the Rotterdam Conservatorium with Ack van Rooyen , Jarmo Hoogendijk , Eric Vloeimans and At van Zon, where he graduated in 1997 as a qualified instrumental music teacher. A year later he also passed the concert exam. He received further instruction in master classes a. a. with Uli Beckerhoff , John Abercrombie , Markus Stockhausen , John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler . One of his first stations was the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer from 1994–1997 .

As part of a 1995 scholarship, he received theory and composition lessons from Ed Tomassi and Greg Hopkins at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and was able to participate in renowned Berklee ensembles. With the Florian Zenker-Christian cap 4 tet he won the International Dutch Young Talent Competition 1997 in Leeuwarden and released several albums with the 4 tet . He performed a. a. at the North Sea Jazz Festivalv and the jazz festivals in Bogotá , Leverkusen , Warsaw , Madrid and Moscow . At the International Jazz Competition in Bilbao (Spain) he won a CD production in 1999 and was voted the best soloist by the audience. For the past several years, Cap has played in big bands in Vancouver and Victoria , Canada under the direction of Slide Hampton , Hugh Fraser and Ian McDougall . With the Christof Griese –Christian cap quintet, cap won first prize at the Jazz & Blues Award in Berlin in 2005 . With the Brenken-cap quartet, cap won 1st prize at the Ruhr Jazz Prize 2011.

Kap teaches at the Musikhochschule Münster of the University of Münster and at the school for music in the Warendorf district. From 2000 to 2005 he taught at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . In addition to the subjects trumpet, improvisation, ensemble, big band, improvisation and music history as well as the artistic direction of the children's and youth jazz orchestra Westphalia UniJAZZity ( WDR Jazz Prize 2016), he also holds various workshops in Germany and Los Angeles .

In addition to his playing with the band of the percussionist Trilok Gurtu and the organist Barbara Dennerlein cap is also a permanent member of Jasper van't Hof's band "Hotlips" . Other formations are the Marc Brenken- Christian Cap Quartet , the trio 'Cartouche' with Philipp van Endert (guitar) and Andre Nendza (bass) and, since 2009, the trio 'Christian cap & Cru Sauvage' with Kai Brückner (guitar) and Burkhard Jasper (Piano). In addition ,kap is more often active with the group of the singer Eda Zari and the percussionist Rhani Krija .

Cap also worked in various "Lyrik & Jazz" productions, including a. with Peter Rühmkorf (ECM) and the RBB production of " Tim Sund & The Mightiest Ever". The trade journal Jazzpodium describedkap as one of the best jazz trumpeters in Germany.
