Niko Schäuble

Niko Schauble (* 29. January 1962 in Stuttgart ) is a German drummer of modern jazz and composer .

Live and act

Schäuble studied in Berlin, a. a. with Manfred Burzlaff and Konstantinos Avgerinos; with Gebhard Ullmann , Andreas Willers and Hans-Dieter Lorenz (later Martin Lillich ) he founded the quartet Out to Lunch in the mid-1980s , which successfully toured and released albums - also with Enrico Rava ; he was also a member of the "Elefanten" and led his band Tibetan Dixie . He has lived in Australia since 1989. He has appeared with Sam Rivers , Lee Konitz , Trilok Gurtu , Wynton Marsalis , Dewey Redman , Gunther Schuller and Palle Mikkelborg , as well as with Paul Grabowsky (duo album Spiel ), Robyn Archer, Archie Roach, Ruby Hunter, Katie Noonan, Jex Saarelaht and Karaikudi R. Mani. He recorded with the Australian Art Orchestra and with Christof Griese .

Schäuble wrote compositions for the Australian Art Orchestra , the Radiosinfonieorchester Frankfurt , the Berlin Jazz Composers Orchestra JJBC and the Berliner Saxophon Quartet, as well as film and television music for series and feature films such as Stingers , Zoo's Company , Bunch of Fives , Neighbors , Bed of Roses ( Australia). He also teaches at the Victorian College of the Arts at Monash University in Melbourne and the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE. Since 2012 Niko has been running the "Pughouse Studios", where he works as a sound engineer and producer.

Prizes and awards

Schäuble received an Australian Jazz Award for best drummer in 1992 . In 1995 he received the second prize at the Franz-Josef Reinl Foundation for Without End . At the days of light music of the SDR , he won first and second prizes in 1996 for his compositions Ich would like to eat you up and T'an 90.
