Andreas Willers (born December 5, 1957 in Rendsburg ) is a German jazz musician (guitar and composition).

Live and act

Willers, who had started in blues bands like the Charly Schreckschuss Band and in avant-garde groups, initially studied at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles in 1979/1980 in order to complete his studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater with Harry Pepl and in master classes in Banff to continue at John Abercrombie . At Free Music Production he presented a solo album Hier & als Auch , and began to work in a duo with the wind player Gebhard Ullmann . In 1983 he moved to Berlin , where he founded the quartet Out to Lunch with Ullmann, Martin Lillich and Niko Schäuble , which went on international tours, played at major festivals and toured and recorded with Enrico Rava . In 1987, Willers and Ullmann played as Minimal Kids with Trilok Gurtu , later they appeared with Steve Argüelles and recorded with Bob Stewart and Marvin Smitty Smith .

He has expanded his trio Blue Collar to a quartet with Claudio Puntin and to a quintet (and also an octet) with Matthias Schubert and Dominique Pifarély . He also plays in a quartet with Paul Bley and Yves Robert . From 1991 to 1996 he taught at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . In the mid-1990s Willers played in the Theo Jörgensmann / Petras Vyšniauskas Quintet with Kent Carter and Klaus Kugel . He forms the Grid Mesh formation with Frank Paul Schubert , Christof Thewes and Willi Kellers .

Willers also worked with Gerry Hemingway , Hans Lüdemann , David Murray , Paul Bley , Marc Ducret , Warnfried Altmann , Bobby Previte , Uwe Kropinski , Elvira Plenar , Dirk Raulf and the Acoustic Guitar Orchestra .

Together with Ullmann, he received the German Phono Academy Prize (1983) and the SWF Jazz Prize (1987).
