Uwe Kropinski
Uwe Kropinski (born February 20, 1952 in East Berlin ) is a German composer , percussionist , improvisation and jazz guitarist . He is one of the most prominent jazz guitarists in Germany.
Life
Kropinski started as a rock musician in 1966 and played with singer Tamara Danz (his girlfriend at the time) in the band Die Cropies . From 1970 to 1974 he studied classical guitar with Dieter Rumstig and jazz guitar at the Berlin University of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin .
In 1977 he began his concert career as a free jazz and improvisation musician, until 1986 he was a member of various jazz formations. He played with Conny Bauer (1976) and other leading jazz musicians in East Germany. He played his first solo concert in the Peitz jazz workshop . He led a quartet with the line-up Volker Schlott (saxophone), Günter Bartel (bass) and Peter Gröning (drums). This was followed by duets with John Tchicai (saxophone), Joëlle Léandre (bass) and Rudolf Dašek (guitar). Other partners were Günter "Baby" Sommer and Adelhard Roidinger . He worked in various dance projects with Iris Sputh , Arila Siegert and Thomas Hartmann, among others at the Bauhaus Dessau . Tours across Europe were on the program.
In 1986 he moved to Nuremberg , 1987 to Cologne . In 1993 he went on an Africa tour with Michael Heupel (with support from the Goethe Institute ). In 1989 he had Theo Scharpach build a special guitar with 39 frets on which he developed new playing and percussion techniques, which he is the only musician to play. In 1995 he performed with Jamaaladeen Tacuma . Cooperations with Joachim Kühn , Rolf Kühn and Dieter Köhnlein followed. In 1998 he moved back to Berlin .
In addition to his concert activities, Kropinski gives improvisation workshops and writes numerous compositions. Together with David Friesen he publishes the composed works Guitar-guitar and Departure . He is also a photographer and CD cover designer.
