Dieter Rumstig

Dieter Rumstig (born June 22, 1928 in Berlin ; † September 4, 2017 in Zehdenick ) was a German guitarist , music teacher and music dramaturge .

Life

Rumstig studied guitar with Johannes Seelcke and from 1953 to 1960 with Bruno Henze , one of the co-founders of the Berlin guitar school .

From 1952 he was the first guitarist of the GDR State Folk Art Ensemble in Berlin-Köpenick, where he also performed as a soloist. With the ensemble he made many tours through East and West Germany and to China (December 10, 1953 to March 11, 1954).

From 1956 he worked for twenty-five years as a guitar teacher at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin . Successful musicians like Uwe Kropinski are among his students . He worked as a music dramaturge and in 1976 initiated the International Guitar Days in the Theater im Palast der Republik (TiP), which took place from 1982 to 1990 . The biennial guitar festival became a podium for internationally renowned guitarists. During this time he worked with the general manager Vera Oelschlegel .

From 1961 he was a guitarist for radio in the GDR . He worked on several radio plays on novels of children's and youth literature with a. a. Treasure Island , Tom Sawyer's Great Adventure, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . In the GDR film adaptation of The Little Prince (based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ) by Konrad Wolf in 1966/72 he took over the solo role. He was Artist of political songs by Hanns Eisler , by Ernst Busch were sung, and instrumentalist in operas and ballets like Gioachino Rossini at the Staatskapelle Berlin under Otmar Suitner listed opera Barber of Seville by and The limping devil of Wilhelm Neef , where he met performed with the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra under Adolf Fritz Guhl and Horst Neumann .

From 1974 he gave concerts in a duo with his student and later wife Barbara Richter . They traveled to France , Italy , Mexico , Czechoslovakia , Germany and the Soviet Union , among others . Her musical interests were Johann Sebastian Bach and Fernando Sor . Contemporary composers such as Andre Asriel , Reiner Bredemeyer , Jürgen Ganzer , Paul-Heinz Dittrich and Georg Katzer dedicated pieces to them. Several recordings were made, including a. the CD masterpieces for two guitars .

Rumstig was a juror at international guitar competitions, for example in Havana in 1984 under the chairmanship of Leo Brouwer .

In 1991 he moved with his wife to cap, municipality of Zehdenick and for many years was chairman and guitar teacher at the BAJA e. V., which was based in Templin . Together with his wife, he organized the International Guitar Festival there from 1993 to 2011 (with a guitar competition).
