Ensemble leader

Ensemble leader is the name of the person who leads or conducts a musical ensemble - i.e. a group of instrumentalists or singers - in rehearsals and performances . She is responsible for the selection and rehearsal of works as well as the artistic interpretation of an existing musical text through the design of musical parameters such as tempo (speed), dynamics (volume) and timbre .

If the ensemble is of a corresponding size, one speaks of the orchestra leader or conductor . In a vocal ensemble or choir , one speaks of the choir director .

Ensemble conducting, choir conducting and orchestral conducting are subjects that can be studied as major or minor subjects as part of a music degree. There are training courses to become an ensemble leader at vocational schools for music , conservatories and music colleges .
