Ian McDougall (musician)

Ian McDougall (born June 14, 1938 in Calgary ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( trombone , composition ).

Live and act

McDougall grew up in Victoria and studied in London. The first recordings were made in 1960 with the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra. After his return to North America he was briefly a member of the Woody Herman Orchestra ( The Jazz Swinger , 1966) and played in the jazz scene in Vancouver a . a. with Bobby Hales, Rob McConnell , Moe Koffman , Dave McMurdo , in the formation The Brass Connection and in the Fraser MacPherson Quintet. In 1970 he presented his debut album Music by Ian McDougall (CBC Radio Canada). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 66 recording sessions between 1960 and 2012, most recently with singer Melinda Whitaker.

Awards

In April 2008, McDougall was honored with the Order of Member of the Order of Canada . The album Live Jazz Legends , on which McDougall participated, was nominated for the Juno Award in 2008. Ian McDougall's albums received three Juno nominations; for Best Traditional Jazz Album ( In a Sentimental Mood , 2006), Instrumental Album of the Year ( The Very Thought of You , 2013), and Traditional Jazz Album ( The Ian McDougall 12tet Live 2014).
