Ewout Pierreux

Ewout Pierreux (born March 8, 1978 in Halle ) is a Belgian jazz musician ( piano ).

Pierreux comes from a family of artists; the father was a saxophonist, the mother a painter. He started playing the saxophone and piano at an early age. He received classical training at the music schools in Halle and Gooik , where he graduated in 1996. During this time he chose the piano as his main instrument and studied until his graduation in 2001 at the jazz department of the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with Ron van Rossum. He also attended master classes with Bill Carrothers , Bruce Barth , Bobo Stenson , Brad Mehldau and Kenny Werner .

Pierreux led his own trio ep3 with bassist Yannick Peeters and drummer Steven Cassiers. He was a member of the Jazzisfaction quartet ( Open Questions , 2006) and belongs to his wife's band, the singer Tutu Puoane , with whom he recorded albums such as Breath , Ilanga and Tutu Puoane Sings Joni Mitchell . With Marcus Wyatt he released the album Small World in 2018 . Together with trombonists Dree Peremans and Jesse van Ruller , he is part of the medium-format Rebirth :: Collective , with which several albums have been created. He is also the pianist of the Tuesday Night Orchestra , substitute pianist and arranger in the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and worked in the rock project Upperlip Orchestra and in Unit 7 around Tom Van Dyck . He also played with musicians such as Bert Joris , Toots Thielemans , Kurt Van Herck , Philippe Aerts , Dré Pallemaerts , Frank Vaganée , Bart Defoort , Jack van Poll , Piet Verbist and Martijn Vink .

He also teaches at the Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp and the Sint-Agatha-Berchem Music Academy (Brussels).
