Kurt Van Herck
Kurt Van Herck (* 1965 in Westmeerbeek ) is a Belgian jazz musician who has mastered the saxophone, clarinet and flute as instruments.
Act
Van Herck studied at the Jazz Studio n Antwerp , where he student of Dennis Luxion and John Ruocco was in contact with Jacques Pelzer came. Since 1986 he has worked with musicians from the Belgian scene such as Dré Pallemaerts , Bert Joris , Diederik Wissels , Erwin Vann , Frank Vaganée , Philippe Aerts , Michel Herr , Daniel Romeo , Éric Legnini , Michel Hatzigeorgiou , Riccardo Del Fra , Serge Lazarevitch , Nathalie Loriers and Kris Goessens together. He has also performed with pop musicians such as Viktor Lazlo , Kadja Nin and Axelle Red and with international jazz musicians such as Joe Lovano , Larry Schneider , Dave Liebman , Alain Jean-Marie , Archie Shepp , Joe Haider , Slide Hampton and Bob Mover .
Van Herck worked with smaller formations such as the Serge Lazarevitch Quintet , the Nathalie Loriers Quartet , the Diederik Wissels Group and Amina Figarova's group. He is a member of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra . As a big band player, he continued to work with the BRT Jazz Orchestra , the Act Big Band , the Dizzie Gillespie Big Band and the French Big Band Passage .
In 1993 he founded the Kurt Van Herck- Kris Goessens Quartet (with Nicolas Thys and Dré Pallemaerts), the group All The Way (with Daniel Romeo, Kris Goessens and Dré Pallemaerts) and the Kurt van Herck Trio (with Karl van Deun and Michel Seba ). Since 1995 he has been teaching jazz saxophone, ensemble and big band playing at the Royal Flemish Conservatory . In the same year he released the album Another Day, Another Dollar with his quartet .
Prizes and awards
Van Herck represented Belgium in the EBU big band in 1988 . With the Nathalie Loriers Quartet , he won the French-speaking radio competition in 1990. In 1997 he was awarded the Django d'Or .
