Dennis Luxion
Dennis Luxion (* 1952 in Springfield , Illinois ) is an American pianist , arranger and composer of modern jazz and music teacher .
Live and act
In the early 1970s, Dennis Luxion studied piano with Roger Shields at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , composition with Frederic Rzewski , Philippe Boesmans and George Flynn, Indian music with Nada Brahmananda , Latin percussion with Geraldo de Oliveira and West African percussion with Midawo Gideon Foli Alorwoyie.
In the 1980s he worked in Belgium, Germany and France with Rachel Gould , Stella Levitt and from 1979 to 1983 with the trumpeter Chet Baker , for whom he also wrote the composition Prayer for the Newborn . During this time he also played in Monika Linges' quartet . After his return to the United States, he was active in the Chicago jazz scene , where he performed with his own trio and quintet, at The Green Mill jazz club with the Green Mill Quartet. In 1996 he released the album Ennead: Nine Songs for Jazz Quartet under his own name . Between 2008 and 2011 he was musical director of the Power of Oneness Spiritual Center in Hyde Park , as well as arranger and musical director of the Jazz Fauré Project and the Chet Baker tribute Deep in a Dream with Oscar Brown Jr. and James Gavin . In 2012 he was sent by the US State Department through South Africa with Dennis Luxion / Michael Raynor Quartet in the program Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad of Jazz at Lincoln Center .
In the 1980s he taught at the Jazz Studio in Antwerp and at the Séminaire de Jazz of the Royal Conservatory of Liège . He currently teaches at Columbia College Chicago.
