Nordmøre is the northernmost part of the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Møre og Romsdal . The coast region consists of the 11 local Aure , Averøy , Eide , Gjemnes , Halsa , Kristiansund , Rindal , Smøla , Sundal , Surnadal and Ting full . The unofficial capital is Kristiansund.

Nordmøre has an area of ​​6 072 square kilometers and 60 257 inhabitants. Nordmøre is one of the 15 so-called districts that together make up Vestlandet .

Nordmøre as well as Romsdal and Sunnmøre was an earlier bailiwick ( fogderi ), together they form today's Møre og Romsdal. Fosen in what is now Trøndelag also originally belonged to Nordmøre .

In the local language the population is called nordmøringer . The Nordmørsdialekt belongs to the Trönderschen dialect group of the Eastern Norwegian dialects.
