Eide is a place and a former Norwegian municipality in the province ( Fylke ) Møre og Romsdal . The administrative seat of the municipality was the town of the same name. As part of the local government reform in Norway , Eide and Fræna were merged to form Hustadvika on January 1, 2020 .

Eide, Ørjavik and Vevang were the largest towns in the municipality, which bordered Averøy , Gjemnes and Fræna. 3433 inhabitants lived in an area of ​​152 km² (as of January 1, 2019). The commune number was 1551.

The stone industry in Eide

The most important branches of industry are quarries and stone processing. Eide is best known for marble . Stone processing has a tradition in Eide that goes back to 1904, when Iver Rasmussen Eide was the first to start mining limestone for railway and road bridges in Eide . After the Ålesund fire, much of the town was rebuilt with stones made of eide. Among other things, Ålesund Church was built from eide marble. In 1918 the production of tombstones began in Eide . Today Eide's stone industry has a 40% market share in this field in Norway.

Reichsstraße 64 connects Eide with Molde and Kristiansund .

Attractions

  • Atlanterhavsveien is part of Reichsstraße 64, opened in 1989 , which connects Eide with Averøy via eight bridges. In 2005 the road was named "Norwegian Construction of the Century".
