Free was a municipality in the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) More og Romsdal . On January 1, 2008 Frei was incorporated into Kristiansund .
Around 955 the battle of Rastarkalv between Haakon I and the sons of Erik I took place in Frei .
Geography and traffic
The municipality of Frei consisted of the island of the same name and several small surrounding islands. Neighboring municipalities were Kristiansund , Tingvoll , Gjemnes and Averøy .
The largest town in the former Frei municipality is Rensvik .
The most important traffic connection over the Omsund bru is the Reichsstraße 70, which connects Kristiansund with the Europastraße 39 .
