Que
Que ( Chinese 闕 / 阙 , Pinyin què ) are in the architecture of ancient China on both sides of a palace gate or a manorial residence, symmetrically arranged watchtowers or decorative stone pillars in the form of watchtowers. They also stood in front of the gates of large Buddhist and Daoist monasteries, also in front of some tombs. Que is usually not translated as a technical term. In English, the technical term is often rendered with watchtower or simply tower .
Many Han Period Que ornamental pillars have been preserved in Sichuan Province , most of which stand alone today. Que in the form of walkable fore or watchtowers are for example in front of the “noon gate” ( Wumen午 門) of the Forbidden City .
