Shell Rock is a small town (with the status " City ") in Butler County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Shell Rock had 1296 inhabitants, the number of which increased to 1335 by 2013.

Shell Rock is located in northeast Iowa on the Shell Rock River , which is part of the Mississippi River basin via the West Fork Cedar River , the Cedar River and the Iowa River . This forms the border between Iowa and Wisconsin and Illinois around 140 km east . The Minnesota border runs 100 km north of Shell Rock.
The geographical coordinates of Shell Rock are 42 ° 42'37 "north latitude and 92 ° 34'59" west longitude. The city covers an area of 4.3 km² and is the largest town within the Shell Rock Township .
