Parkersburg is a small town (with the status " City ") in Butler County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Parkersburg had 1,870 inhabitants, the number of which increased to 1950 by 2013.

Parkersburg is located in northeast Iowa on Beaver Creek , which is part of the Mississippi River basin over the Cedar River and the Iowa River . This forms the border between Iowa and Wisconsin and Illinois about 150 km to the west . The Minnesota border runs about 110 km north of Parkersburg.

After whites first settled in the area of today's city in 1857, the place was connected to the railroad network of Illinois Central and Chicago Northwestern in the 1860s . The settlement was named after the settler and first postman Pascal P. Parker . In December 1874, Parkersburg was incorporated as an independent municipality with effect from January 1875. In a major fire in 1893, most of the wooden buildings at that time were destroyed, which led to the construction of more stable brick buildings during the subsequent reconstruction.
