Robert Francis "Bob" McDonnell (born June 15, 1954 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was governor of Virginia from January 16, 2010 to January 11, 2014 .

Life

Bob McDonnell grew up in Alexandria ( Virginia on). His father John McDonnell served as a soldier in the US Air Force , his mother Emma first worked as a secretary for the Texas Congressman Olin E. Teague and later as an employee at the Mount Vernon country estate of former US President George Washington .

McDonnell graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana , studied business administration , received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1976 , a Master of Business Administration from Boston University in 1980 and a Doctor of Law from Regent University in 1989 . McDonnell has held conservative views, speaks out against abortion , campaigns for oil drilling off the coast of Virginia and was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) . Corruption allegations
