Resignations of professors at the School of Psychology and Counseling

In June 2006, five of eleven faculty members at the School of Psychology and Counseling completed their jobs. In the years before, more and more professors had left. The remaining professors include Mark A. Yarhouse . According to an article in the Virginia Pilot newspaper , students and professors said that the faculty had punishments for certain expressions of morality. Individual professors who have left spoke of a climate of fear and intimidation, a toxic environment and a climate that undermines Christian values instead of promoting them. A petition circulated among students criticizing the practices and conduct of Dean Rosemarie Scotti Hughes and Pastoral Program Leader Rosemary Thompson.

In December 2007, School Dean Hughes offered mediation and promised a meeting, which some students disappointed as they asked for more change in the School of Psychology and Counseling . Hughes, however, stated that no further action would be taken.
