The Binghamton University (also BU called) is a public university's Vestal , near Binghamton in the US state of New York . It is one of the four major universities in the State University of New York system. In 2005, 14,018 students were enrolled at the university, 2,844 of them postgraduates. The university is one of the best state universities in the USA, a so-called Public Ivy .

history

Binghamton University was founded in 1946 as Triple Cities College in Endicott near Binghamton and was part of Syracuse University . After joining the State University of New York system in 1950, the college was renamed Harpur College . The university has been located on its current campus since 1951. When Harpur College was selected as one of the 4 core universities of the SUNY system in 1965 , it was renamed Harpur College, State University of New York at Binghamton . In 1992 the university took its current name Binghamton University . To date, Harpur College is the university's largest college for the natural sciences and humanities and with 8,000 students.

Sports

The sports team are the Bearcats . The university is a member of the America East Conference .
