biography

Ingrid Michaelson was born in 1979 into a family of artists. Her father is a classical music composer , her mother an artist and director of the Staten Island Museum . Ingrid Michaelson grew up in the Staten Island district of New York, where her musical talent was recognized and promoted early on. At the age of four she received piano lessons, later she took singing lessons at the Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute in Staten Island.

Michaelson studied theater studies at Binghamton University and accompanied a theater company as a director on their tour. During this time she began to compose her own songs. In 2002 the first appearances in a café bar in Staten Island followed. Michaelson decided a year later to record some of their tracks on a self-produced album, Slow the Rain . Since no music label was interested in Slow the Rain , Ingrid Michaelson published her self- published debut .

Ingrid Michaelson published her second album Girls and Boys in 2006 on the Internet on the Myspace website . There, the music manager Lynn Grossman became aware of Michaelson and placed the title Breakable in November 2006 in an episode of the television series Grey's Anatomy . Ingrid Michaelson's use of this song sparked huge internet demand, her MySpace page was heavily trafficked, and the album Girls and Boys reached # 2 on the iTunes Pop Charts .

Michaelson's songs were used in other episodes of Grey's Anatomy as well as in several episodes of the drama series One Tree Hill . For the finale of the third season of Grey's Anatomy , she had recorded a new title specially. In the fall of 2007, the title The Way I Am was used for an advertising campaign for the clothing company Old Navy . Finally, Girls and Boys was re-released in September 2007, but again on their own independent label Cabin 24 . The album's first single, The Way I Am , hit the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2007 and eventually peaked at number 37.

The success of Girls and Boys resulted in Ingrid Michaelson's numerous television and concert appearances in the United States. In fall 2008, she joined the preliminary program of the European tour by Jason Mraz on. Michaelson was also involved in various benefit events . Her third album Be OK , which included live recordings and cover versions as well as several new songs, was released in October 2008 in the United States for the benefit of the charity Stand Up to Cancer . Ingrid Michaelson composed the ballad Winter Song together with Sara Bareilles for a benefit album by the Los Angeles- based concert promoter Hotel Café , which both of them recorded together.

One year late, Girls and Boys was also released in Germany in December 2008 . The single The Way I Am was released in advance on November 28, 2008.

Ingrid Michaelson wrote the title Parachute with Marshall Altman for the solo debut 3 Words by the British singer Cheryl Cole , which was released in late 2009 . The song became a top 10 hit in the UK and brought Cole two nominations for the Brit Awards in the categories of Best British Artist and Best British Single one. In 2010 Michaelson released her own version of Parachute , Michaelson's albums Everybody and Boys and Girls and the single The Way I Am were also released in the UK.
