Pan American Games

The South American women's soccer championship ( Spanish Copa América Femenina , Portuguese Copa América Feminina ; formerly Sudamericano Femenino / Sudamericano Feminino ) is organized by the South American continental association CONMEBOL and has been played since 1991 . The current title holder and record winner with seven titles is Brazil .

Story and mode

Only three and five countries participated in the first two tournaments. All ten members of CONMEBOL have been taking part since 1998. Brazil and Chile are the only countries that have always participated. The tournament initially took place at irregular intervals, since 2006 it has taken place every four years in the previous year of the women's soccer World Cup and also serves as its qualification. In addition, the tournament is used to determine the participants in the women's Olympic football tournament. CONMEBOL is currently entitled to two participants each in the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

Apart from Bolivia , each team was able to reach a place in the top four at least once, Venezuela only when only three teams participated. In contrast to the Copa América , the South American championship in men's football, no visiting teams from foreign confederations take part in the tournament.
