The 4th South American Women's Football Championship ( Sudamericano Femenino in Spanish ) took place from April 23 to 27, 2003 in Peru . The game was played in the capital, Lima . The winner was Brazil for the fourth time . Originally, the tournament was supposed to take place from April 5th to 16th, 2002 in Córdoba , Argentina . Then the tournament was awarded to Peru and should take place in January / February 2003. It was later decided to host three regional qualifying tournaments. The three group winners then contested the final tournament with defending champions Brazil.

Each of the four finalists plays once against each other team. The team with the highest points is the winner. The South American champions and the runner-up qualified for the 2003 Women's World Cup .
