The 8th South American Women's Football Championship ( Spanish Copa América Femenina ) took place in Chile from April 4 to 22, 2018 . Chile hosted the tournament for the first time. Defending champion Brazil was able to defend its title. The tournament also served as a qualification for the 2019 World Cup in France , the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima . The two best teams, Brazil and Chile, qualified directly for the World Cup, while the third-placed Argentine team will face the fourth-placed CONCACAF qualification in playoff games.

The games will take place in La Serena and Coquimbo in the Región de Coquimbo .

Mode and participants

The ten participating teams were divided into two groups of five teams each as part of a draw. Within the groups, each team plays each other once. There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. The first two teams in each group reach the final round, where each team meets each other once again. Here, too, there were three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.

The first two teams in the final round are directly qualified for the world championship. The third will play playoffs against the fourth of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 .
