The 6th South American Women's Football Championship ( Sudamericano Femenino in Spanish ) took place from November 4th to 21st, 2010 in Ecuador . It was the first time that Ecuador hosted the tournament. The defending champion was Argentina . The tournament served as qualification for the 2011 World Cup in Germany and the 2012 Olympic Games in London . Brazil was able to secure the title and participation in the World Cup on matchday two of the final round. Colombia secured second place and their first World Cup and Olympic participation with a win against defending champions Argentina on the last day of the match.
The ten participating teams were divided into two groups of five teams each as part of a draw. Within the groups, each team played each other once. There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. The first two teams in each group reached the final round, where each team met each other once again. Here, too, there were three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat. The first two teams in the final round are qualified for the 2011 World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games.

The games took place in the cities of Ambato, Azogues, Cuenca, Latacunga, Loja, Quito and Riobamba and for the first time in different locations. The capital Quito was the venue for the final round games. All venues are between 2,000 and 2,850 m above sea level.
