The National Women's Football Team of Chile represents Chile in international women's football . The national team is subordinate to the Football Association of Chile and is coached by the Chilean José Letelier. The selection played their first international match at the first South American Championship in 1991 , which was also the first FIFA-counted women's international football match in South America. As a result, she also took part in all other CONMEBOL South American championships held so far . The second place in 1991, when only three teams took part, was the greatest success until 2018, then this could be repeated with ten participants. The team qualified for a world championship for the first time, but retired there after the preliminary round. After all, the first win in a World Cup was against Thailand , something Argentina and Ecuador have not yet achieved when they took part in the World Cup. The selection of Chile has not yet participated in the Olympic Games, but still has the chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in playoff games against an African representative.
Until November 2006, Chile only played against South American countries. After a three-year international break, games against a Central American country ( Mexico , 0: 3 and 0: 2) were played for the first time in November 2009 and two games against China (1: 0 and 0: 2) in December 2009 , and games against at the beginning of 2010 Japan (1: 1) and Denmark (1: 2). These games played in Coquimbo were also the first home games. In 2011, Chile took part in the Algarve Cup for the first time and played for the first time in Europe. In the group of the weaker teams, Chile finished last, but won the game for 11th place on penalties against Romania .
