The 1st South American Women's Soccer Championship ( Sudamericano Femenino in Spanish ) took place in Brazil from April 28th to May 5th, 1991 . The game was played at the Estádio Willie Davids in Maringá in the southern state of Paraná . It was the first women's international soccer game in South America recognized by FIFA . For Chile and Venezuela it was also the first international matches for the women's teams. The host was the winner .

Only three national teams had registered for the tournament. Each team played against each other once. The team with the highest points became the South American champions and qualified for the 1991 Women's World Cup .
