This article is about the Chilean women's national soccer team at the 2019 women's soccer world cup in France . Chile entered the finals for the first time and are the fifth South American team to qualify for a women's World Cup. The team was eliminated as the second worst group third after the group stage.

qualification

As in the previous championships, the South American football championship , for which the ten CONMEBOL members had registered a team, again served as qualification. This took place in April 2018 in Chile . First they played in two groups of five teams each in the free-for-all mode and then the two best teams in each group played again in the free-for-all mode. The best two teams in this round were directly qualified for the World Cup. The third-placed team would face fourth in the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in the Pan-American playoff .

The Chilean team scored 1-1 in their first game against Paraguay. After a goalless draw against Colombia, Uruguay were defeated 1-0 and Peru 5-0. As runner-up in the group behind Colombia, Chile moved into the final round. In the final round they started with a 1: 3 against defending champions Brazil. But this was the only defeat. Against Colombia there was only one draw, this time goalless, but in the last game Argentina were defeated 4-0. This made it enough for second place and direct qualification for the World Cup finals.

A total of 18 players were used, seven of which played all seven games. The most goals for the Chilean team were scored by Yanara Aedo (3). A total of six Chilean players contributed to the twelve goals in qualifying. They also benefited from an own goal by an Argentine player.

draw

Venues for the Chilean team

For the World Cup group draw that took place on December 8, 2018, Chile was allocated Pot 4 due to its placement in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team was able to face world champions USA, Germany or hosts France in the group games, but not one of the other two South American teams. Ultimately, the defending champions USA, Sweden and Thailand were drawn.

The two games played against the USA in 2018 were the only two games before the World Cup against one of the three group opponents.
