draw

Venues for the Spanish team

For the World Cup group draw that took place on December 8, 2018, Spain was allocated Pot 2 based on its position in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team could thus meet world champions USA, Germany or hosts France in the group games. Ultimately, the group B team with ex-world champions Germany was drawn, where they will also meet China and South Africa for the first time.

There are only two games against China, which the Spaniards won in September 2015 in the People's Republic. The Spaniards met Germany twice in competitive games, in qualifying for the EM 2013 . After a 2-2 home game, they lost the second leg 5-0. Germany qualified directly for the European Championship finals and defended the title there. Spain had to make the playoffs of the group runners-up and could also qualify in dramatic games against Scotland . There were also two friendlies. The Spaniards lost the first 6-0 just before the 1997 European Championship , for which Spain was able to qualify for the first time. The last friendly match in November 2018 was goalless.
