This article covers the Jamaican women's national soccer team at the 2019 women's soccer world cup in France . Jamaica entered the finals for the first time. Jamaica qualified by winning the penalty shoot-out in the game for 3rd place in the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup and are the first Caribbean team to compete in the Women's World Cup. They were able to qualify 20 years after the men who first took part in the 1998 World Cup in France. Jamaica and European champions Netherlands needed the most games (12) to qualify.

qualification

The CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 served as a qualification for the CONCACAF teams , in which the two finalists and the third placed could qualify directly for the World Cup and the fourth placed could reach the Pan-American playoffs against the third of the South American Women's Football Championship 2018 . Jamaica had to qualify for it in two rounds. First, the team met the host, Guadeloupe and Martinique at a tournament in Haiti in May 2018 . After a 13: 0 against Guadeloupe and a 3: 0 against Martinique, a 2: 2 against the hosts was enough to reach the second round due to three more goals scored. In this, Jamaica reached home at the end of August / beginning of September 2018 and opponents were the teams from Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda, Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago. It was enough to get one of the three first places to take part in the Gold Cup. Jamaica was able to use the home advantage and won all four games. As the winner of the Caribbean zone, the team traveled to the USA for the tournament . Here the team met Costa Rica, Canada and Cuba. The first game was against Canada with 0-2 lost. Then a 1-0 win against Costa Rica, participants of the last World Cup, succeeded. The second place in the group was occupied by the subsequent 9: 0 against Cuba. This was the second time Jamaica was in the semi-finals after 2006, but lost 6-0 to hosts USA. In the game for third place, the Jamaicans faced Panama, which had secured second place in their group with a 2-0 win against former World Cup participants Mexico, but went down 7-0 in the semifinals against Canada. After 90 minutes it was 1: 1, so it came to extra time. In this, both teams scored a goal, which meant that the decision had to be made on penalties . Here two players from Panama missed, whereas there was no miss on the Jamaican side and Jamaica won the penalty shoot-out 4-2. Jamaica was able to qualify for the first time and as the first Caribbean team ever for the World Cup finals.

The best goalscorer was Khadija Shaw with 19 goals, 16 of them in qualifying for the Gold Cup, who was also the best goalscorer of all teams that wanted to take part in the World Cup. Jody Brown scored a total of six goals, but with four goals she was the best Jamaican goalscorer at the Gold Cup. A total of 14 players contributed at least one goal to a total of 53 goals.

draw

Venues for the Jamaican team

For the draw of the World Cup groups on December 8, 2018, Jamaica was allocated to Pot 4 based on its placement in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team could meet Germany or host France. Due to the mode, however, she could not meet world champions USA or Canada. Jamaica was drawn into Group C with Australia, Brazil and Italy.

So far there has been one game against Brazil that was lost 5-0 at the 2007 Pan American Games. Jamaica has not played against Australia and Italy any more than it has played against other AFC and UEFA teams.
