Ashleigh Jerise Shim (born November 11, 1993 in Kingston , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican national soccer player and current coach with roots in the Cayman Islands .

Career

Shim started her career with the Jacksonville- based club Creeks Clash SC. During this time she played basketball and soccer , for the Fletcher Senators the athletic team at Duncan U. Fletcher Middle School in Jacksonville Beach , Florida . She then ran from 2007 to 2009 for the Sandalwood Saints , the team at Sandalwood High School , where she was team captain for two seasons . After graduating from high school, Shim decided to study at Florida International University , where she played for the Panthers . There she was appointed to the NCAA All-Conference USA Second Team in 2013 and was awarded the Dr. Paul D. Gallagher Community Service Award, as well as the Senior CLASS Award in 2014.

In January 2016 she moved to Europe and signed with German second division club VfL Sindelfingen and scored twice in her debut on February 15, 2016. She played nine games in the second half of the 2015/16 season and scored six goals before joining the Swedish Dam Division 1 club FC Djursholm in May . After just two months, where she scored two goals in four games, she terminated her contract in Sweden and returned to the US in late August 2016.

International

Shim ran through the Cayman Islands U-17 at junior level and played in the 2009 CONCACAF qualification for the 2010 U-17 Women's World Cup , where she scored five goals in five international matches.

On June 16, 2015, she was appointed to the Jamaican women's national soccer team for the first time and made her debut on August 23, 2015 in a 6-0 win over the Dominican Republic . She is part of Jamaica's squad for the 2019 Women's World Cup in France .

Coaching career

After her return to the US, she founded the Florida-based Trained-2-Go Soccer Academy in August and also trained the U-15 girls at the South Kendall Sunblazer Soccer Club. She has been the coach of the Pinecrest Premier SC male U-8s since the beginning of 2017.

Personal

Shim, who was born in Kingston to a Jamaican and a mother from Jamaica, grew up in the United States. In Florida, she attended Duncan U. Fletcher Middle School in Jacksonville Beach from 2002 to 2006 and then Sandalwood High School between 2007 and 2011. Shim studied sports and fitness at Florida International University for 4 years and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2015 . Since September 2014 Shim is in possession of the USSF National E license trainer license . Her cousin Francesca Chong was also a soccer player and played a. a. for the Varela Vipers (Felix Varela High School) and Florida International University.
