This article discusses the Women's United States men's national soccer team at the FIFA World Cup of Women in 2019 in France . The US team took part in the finals for the eighth time, making it the only CONCACAF team that was qualified for all events. The USA qualified by reaching the final of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 . The USA were able to defend their title from 2015 and are now the second team to succeed after Germany (2003 and 2007). While Germany competed with different coaches in 2003 and 2007, Jill Ellis was on the sidelines for both titles in the USA . They set new series records: They were the first team to win 12 games in a row across the World Cup, which is also a new record for a coach, and not to lose 17 games in a row - except through penalty shootouts .
qualification
The CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 served as a qualification for the CONCACAF teams , in which the two finalists and the third placed could qualify directly for the World Cup and the fourth placed could reach the Pan-American playoffs against the third of the South American Women's Football Championship 2018 . The USA were automatically qualified as hosts and defending champions for the Gold Cup and initially met Mexico, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago at the tournament in the USA . In the first game Mexico were defeated 6-0, which already meant a preliminary decision for the group victory, as the other two teams were placed lower in the FIFA world rankings . A 5-0 win against Panama followed, and a 7-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago, which resulted in the group victory. In the semi-finals, the team met Jamaica, which had defeated previous World Cup participants Costa Rica 1-0 in the parallel group and thus relegated to third place. The Americans qualified 6-0 for the final and the World Cup in France. In the final they then defended the title against Canada with a 2-0 win - the 50th win in their 60th game against the northern neighbor.
In total, national coach Jill Ellis deployed 20 players, eleven of which were already in the squad for the 2015 World Cup. The two goalkeepers Ashlyn Harris (1 mission) and Alyssa Naeher (4 missions) were not used there. Four players were used in all five games. The top scorers were Alex Morgan , who made her 150th international match in the semi-finals, with seven goals and Tobin Heath with four goals. A total of ten players contributed at least one goal to a total of 26 goals.

draw
US team venues |
For the draw for the World Cup groups on December 8, 2018, the USA was allocated to Pot 1 based on its placement in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team could not meet Germany, neighboring Canada or host France, who were also in Pot 1. Because of the mode, she was also unable to meet Jamaica. The USA were drawn as the last group head for group F. Like four years earlier, the draw was drawn from Sweden, World Cup newcomers Chile and Thailand.
Sweden is the fourth most popular opponent of the US after Canada, China and Norway. Of all the teams, both met each other most frequently at World Cup tournaments. In five preliminary rounds there were three wins for the USA in 1991, 2003 and 2007, a draw at the last edition in 2015 and one defeat at the penultimate World Cup in 2011. A total of 21 wins, nine games without a winner, six normal defeats and two defeats in the Penalty shootouts, including the particularly painful one in the quarter-finals at the last 2016 Olympics, which led to the expulsion of record goalkeeper Hope Solo after she complained about the Swedes' defensive style of play.
The first game against Chile was at the end of August / beginning of September and both games were won (3-0 and 4-0). There was only one game against Thailand, the USA's 50th international opponent, which was won 9-0 in September 2016.

In the round of 16, the Americans played for the first time in a World Cup game against Spain, against which they played for the first time on January 22, 2019 and won 1-0. The last sixteen match was only just won 2: 1, and they conceded the first tournament goal. In the quarter-finals they met the hosts for the first time in a World Cup game and were able to win this game - like the game against Spain - with two goals from Megan Rapinoe 2-1. As in the previous seven World Cup tournaments, the USA are in the semi-finals, where they will meet England. They last played 2-2 against the English at the SheBelieves Cup 2019 . The last victory was at the SheBelieves Cup 2018 , the last defeat at the SheBelieves Cup 2017 .
