qualification

As before, the Asian Cup , which was held in Jordan in 2018, served as qualification for the World Cup finals for the Asian teams . For the championship, South Korea had to qualify at a tournament in North Korea in April 2017. Opponents were Hong Kong, India, North Korea and Uzbekistan. North and South Korea both won against all other participants and played against each other. But as South Korea scored more goals against the other teams than their northern neighbors, South Korea won the tournament and North Korea, which had not been allowed four years earlier, became the only team that could not qualify for the World Cup undefeated.

National coach Jong Song-chon nominated for the championship 23 players, including 15 players who were already part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup.

The South Korean team had caught the heavier group and faced the two finalists of the previous championship, Australia and Japan, but reached a goalless draw against both. Since Australia and Japan separated 1: 1, both had scored one more goal in a direct comparison and since they both won against Vietnam, South Korea could only be third with a victory against Vietnam, which also succeeded with a 4: 0. In the game for 5th place, which meant the World Cup ticket for the Asian teams, they met the Philippines and won the ticket to the World Cup with 5-0.

The South Korean players scored a total of 29 goals in four qualifying and championship games. The most goals for the South Korean team were scored by Cho So-hyun (6, including three in qualifying), Lee Geum-min (5, including four in qualifying) as well as Ji So-yun (4 in qualifying) and Lee Min- a (4, including one in qualification). A total of eleven South Korean players scored in the tournament and qualification.

draw

South Koreans' venues

For the World Cup group draw that took place on December 8, 2018, South Korea was allocated Pot 3 based on its placement in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team could meet world champions USA, Germany or host France. Due to the mode, she could not face any of the four other teams of the Asian Association. Ultimately, the team was drawn to host France, which they will meet in the opening game. Other opponents are Nigeria and Norway.

Against the French was played for the first time at the 2003 World Cup and lost 1-0. 2015 was followed by a 3-0 defeat in the World Cup round of 16. Norway have been opponents of the Asians twice so far, the first game, also at the 2003 World Cup they lost 7-1 and in 2013 they lost 2-0 at the 2013 four-nation tournament . So far, the South Koreans have only met Nigeria at the U-20s (they lost 2-0 in 2012 and 2-1 in 2014 , in both cases they both survived the preliminary round together) and U-17 World Cups ( lost 2-1 in 2008 and won 6: 5 in the quarterfinals after extra time in 2010. South Korea then won the world title).
