The Hong Kong women's national soccer team represents the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in international women's soccer. She reports to the National Football Association Hong Kong Football Association Ltd .

history

The team represented Hong Kong at international football events before 1997, when the country was still a British colony. This continued after Hong Kong was handed over to the People's Republic of China and converted into a Special Administrative Region in 1997. Since then, Hong Kong, like Macau , has had its own national team that is independent of the national team of the People's Republic of China , in keeping with the “ one country, two systems ” doctrine.

Hong Kong's first international matches were held at the 1975 Asian Women's Soccer Championship , the first continental women's soccer tournament to be hosted by Hong Kong. The games, like those of the three following tournaments, are not listed by FIFA .

Only the games at the 1986 Asian Women's Football Championship , which was also hosted by Hong Kong, are taken into account by FIFA. Hong Kong has so far been the most frequent host of the Asian Cup with four events. The greatest successes were the three fourth places at the Asian Championships in 1979, 1981 and 1989. Since the weaker teams have been qualified for the Asian Championships from 2006 onwards, Hong Kong has not been able to qualify. Qualifications for the Olympic Games and the World Championships have not yet been achieved either. Most recently, the team failed in qualifying for the East Asian Championship in December 2012.
