At the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea , two football competitions were held from September 14th to October 2nd, 2014 . 29 teams took part in the men's tournament and 11 teams in the women's tournament. The games were not only played in Incheon , but also in the surrounding cities of Ansan , Goyang and Hwaseong .
As since the 2002 tournament in Busan, only U-23 teams were admitted to the men , who could be reinforced with a maximum of three older athletes. This restriction did not apply to women.
South Korea won the men's tournament with a 1-0 victory after extra time in the final against North Korea . In the bronze medal match, Iraq beat Thailand 1-0 . In the women's category, North Korea beat Japan 3-1 in the final . South Korea secured the bronze medal with a 3-0 win over Vietnam .
Venues
The games were played in six different stadiums in South Korea . The two finals took place in Incheon in Munhak Stadium, the two bronze games in the city's smaller football stadium.

Attendees
The teams were seeded for the seeding list after their placements at the 2010 Asian Games football tournament . The draw took place on August 21, 2014.

Again there were Afghanistan (last time in 2002), Indonesia and Tajikistan (both last time in 2006). For the first time, Laos, Nepal, East Timor and Saudi Arabia were represented by a U-23 team.
