This article covers the Brazilian women's national soccer team at the 2019 women's soccer world cup in France . Brazil took part in the finals for the eighth time, making them the only South American team to have qualified for all of the finals.

qualification

As in the previous championships, the South American football championship , for which the ten CONMEBOL members had registered a team, again served as qualification. This took place in April 2018 in Chile . First they played in two groups of five teams each in the free-for-all mode and then the two best teams in each group played again in the free-for-all mode. The best two teams in this round were directly qualified for the World Cup. The third-placed team would face fourth in the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in the Pan-American playoff .

The opponent in the first game was the Argentine team and Brazil won 3-1. In the three following games, the Brazilians did not concede a goal and won against Bolivia 7-0, Ecuador 8-0 and Venezuela 4-0. So they reached the second round as group winners. Also in this they started with a 3-1 win, this time against hosts Chile. After that, they did not concede again and won against Argentina and Colombia 3-0 each. They had already qualified for the World Cup by beating Argentina. The win against Colombia secured the title defense and the starting place at the Olympic Games in Japan in 2020.

A total of 22 players were used, 14 of which were already in the squad for the 2015 World Cup, including Formiga , who had already resigned but was reactivated before the tournament. Four players took part in all seven games. The most goals for the Brazilian team were scored by Bia Zaneratto (6) and Cristiane and Mônica (4 each). A total of 14 Brazilian players contributed to the 31 goals in qualifying.

draw

The Brazilian team's venues

For the World Cup group draw that took place on December 8, 2018, Brazil was allocated Pot 2 due to its placement in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team was able to face world champions USA, Germany or hosts France in the group games, but not one of the other two South American teams. Ultimately, the team Australia, Italy and World Cup newcomer Jamaica were drawn.

There have been 18 games against Australia so far, with eight wins, one draw and nine defeats. The last victory was in Fortaleza in July 2016 in a preparation game for the 2016 Olympic Games. Then there was a goalless draw in the quarter-finals with a subsequent win on penalties . However, this was followed by four defeats, so that the initially positive balance turned negative. At World Cup tournaments, both met in the quarter-finals in 2007 (3: 2), in 2011 in the group game (1: 0) and in 2015 in the second round (0: 1).

There have been five games against Italy so far, all of which have been won, including a 2-0 in the 1999 World Cup group game. Jamaica was first against the Brazilians in the preliminary round of the 2007 Pan American Games when Brazil were on their way to the title with 5: 0 won.
