This article is about the Norwegian national women's soccer team at the 2019 women's soccer world cup in France . Norway took part in the final round for the eighth time and is one of the three European teams, along with Germany and Sweden, that have always qualified. The team was eliminated in the quarter-finals and thus missed the 2020 Olympic Games.

qualification

Opponents in the qualification were Ireland , European champions Netherlands , Northern Ireland and Slovakia . The group winners could qualify directly, the group runner-up would be qualified for the play-off games for another World Cup starting place if he was one of the four best runners-up in the group.

The Norwegians failed to score for the first time at the European Championships in 2017 and were eliminated as the bottom of the group. Then Ada Hegerberg , who was the first player to be awarded the Ballon d'Or in 2018 , ended her national team career. They started the qualification with a 4-1 win over Northern Ireland and a 6-1 win against Slovakia. But then they lost 1-0 to their supposedly strongest rival, the Netherlands, with the goal not falling until the final minute. But with four more victories they stay in the race. In the last game they met the Dutch women who had been leading up until then, but who had only achieved a goalless draw in their home game against Ireland. A win against the European champions would mean direct qualification, whereas a draw would be sufficient for the Dutch women to be group winners. After six minutes of the game it was already 2-0 for the Norwegians and since the Dutch only managed to hit the next goal, the Norwegians pulled past and qualified directly for the World Cup finals. As the best runner-up in the group, however, the Dutch women reached the playoffs of the four best runners-up in the group and ultimately qualified for the World Cup finals.

A total of 22 players were used, 14 of whom were already in the squad for the 2017 European Championship. Of these, eight players took part in all eight games. Lisa-Marie Utland (7) scored the most goals for the Norwegian team . It was followed by Caroline Graham Hansen with 6 and Guro Riding with 4 goals. A total of seven Norwegian players scored 22 goals in qualifying.

The Norwegian team's venues

For the World Cup group draw that took place on December 8, 2018, Norway was allocated Pot 2 based on its placement in the FIFA world rankings of December 7, 2018. The team could thus meet world champions USA, Germany or hosts France in the group games. Ultimately, the host's group A team was drawn, where they will also face African champions Nigeria and South Korea.

Against France, the record is positive in 20 games with eight wins, seven draws and five defeats. Both met once at world championships: In 2003 the Norwegians won the opening game 2-0. The last game between the two ended in a 1: 1 draw shortly before the 2017 European Championship. There have been three wins against Nigeria so far, including an 8-0 win in the first group game at the 1995 World Cup on the way to winning the World Cup. For Nigeria this is one of the three biggest defeats - they also lost against Germany and group opponents France with 0: 8. The last game against Nigeria in August 2003 was only just won 3-2. There were only three games against South Korea. The first was won 7-1 in the last group game at the 2003 World Cup. At the four-nation tournament in 2013 it was 2-0. The last game between the two of them, the game for 7th place at the Algarve Cup 2018 , was abandoned after 45 minutes without a goal because the pitch was unplayable and is therefore not included in the international match statistics.
