Guro Riding (born July 26, 1994 in Norway ) is a Norwegian soccer player who has been playing for Chelsea since 2019 and for the Norwegian women's national soccer team since 2014 .

Career

societies

Guro riding played in her youth first in her hometown and then at Kattem IL . After Kattem withdrew the team from the first division after the 2012 season, they moved to the Norwegian series champions of the 1990s Trondheims-Ørn , who had already lost their leading position at the time. So she reached with the eagles in the three seasons only places in the lower table middle field. For the 2017 season, after 96 first division games with 26 goals for Trondheim, she moved to the new series champion Lillestrøm SK Kvinner , with whom she was instant champion and top scorer with 18 goals. She was able to repeat both successes in 2018, with 21 goals this year. She also won the Norwegian Cup with Lillestrøm, scoring two goals in the 4-0 cup final against IL Sandviken . As Champion of the Year 2017, she and Lillestrøm took part in the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League , where they knocked out Danish champions Brøndby IF in the round of 32 with a goalless home draw and a 3-1 away win. In the round of 16 there were then two defeats (0: 5 and 1: 2) against the English champions Manchester City . A year later, after successes in the sixteenth and last sixteen against Russian champions Zvezda 2005 Perm (3-0 and 1-0) and Brøndby IF (1-1 with their first CL goal and 2-0), the quarterfinals were reached in which they defeated the women of FC Barcelona with 0: 3 and 0: 1. In December 2018 she was nominated for Norway's player of the year. Ultimately, the title went to Ada Hegerberg . After the 2019 World Cup, she strengthened the Norwegian faction at Chelsea , where she received a three-year contract.

National teams

Guro riding went through all Norwegian junior teams, but in the meantime also played twice for the Swedish U-16 team against the Norwegian team. With the Norwegian U-17 team, she took part in the second qualifying round for the 2010 U-17 European Women's Football Championship in April 2010 . However, they failed to defending champion Germany . In May 2011 she had her first appearances in the U-19 team, directly at the U-19 European Women's Football Championship 2011 in Italy . In the first game she lost to Germany with 1: 3, but since the other two group games were won, whereby she scored the goal to 4: 1 in a 5: 1 against Spain, they reached the semi-finals. Here they prevailed 3: 2 against the hosts and thus reached the final, in which they again met Germany, but lost 8 1: 8. By reaching the semi-finals, however, they had already qualified for the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan . There she was used in the two victories against Canada and Argentina, which allowed them to qualify for the quarter-finals after the opening defeat against North Korea. There it was again the German team that threw them out of the tournament. She had previously participated in the two qualifying rounds for the 2012 U-19 European Women's Football Championship with the U-19 team in September 2011 and spring 2012 . While the first round went smoothly and they contributed four goals in the 9-0 win against Bulgaria, they were eliminated in the second round due to the direct comparison against the Portuguese, as they had lost against them 3-1. In October 2012 she was then able to contribute with two goals, including the only one in the game against Scotland, to successfully clear the first qualifying hurdle for the 2013 European Under-19 Football Championship with three wins. The second round then took place in their home country in April 2013 and they were able to use the home advantage indirectly: After the group games they were only second in the group behind England, but also qualified for the finals as the best second in the group. This took place in August 2013 in Wales . In the first game they lost 5-0 to Germany and since they also lost 1-0 to the Finns, the final 5-0 win against Sweden was of no use, which ended her time as a junior national player. Between 2013 and 2016, she had 14 appearances in the U-23 team, but they did not take part in any UEFA or FIFA tournaments.

On January 14, 2014, she had her first appearance in the senior national team at a small tournament in La Manga against Spain when she was substituted on in the 63rd minute. Three days later she played against England for the full 90 minutes. On February 13, she played her first competitive game against Greece in qualifying for the 2015 World Cup and played over 90 minutes there. In March she then took part in the 2014 Algarve Cup, which was a disaster for Norway and in which the Norwegians could not win a game for the first time. After two appearances in the last two World Cup qualifiers through which the Norwegians qualified for the World Cup and a friendly against New Zealand, she had to wait more than two years for her next appearance, in which she played for the U-23 team. It wasn't until the Algarve Cup 2017 that she was nominated again for the senior national team and played in three games. However, this went only a little better than when they first participated in 2014, because the Norwegians could only take penultimate place with a win against hosts Portugal . However, she was able to achieve the 2-0 final score three minutes after her substitution with her first goal for the senior team.

In June she was also nominated for the 2017 European Championship and came on as a substitute in the opening game against the Netherlands. In the last group game against Denmark, she played over 90 minutes, but could not prevent her team from being eliminated from a major tournament without a point or goal for the first time.

In the first game after the European Championship finals, a World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland, she scored two goals and also scored one goal in the following qualifier against Slovakia. With 4: 1 and 6: 1, the Norwegians topped the table in their qualifying group. She was used in all eight qualifying games and with a total of four goals was the Norwegians' third-best goalscorer in the successfully completed qualification.

She had her first tournament success in 2019 when she won the Algarve Cup . On May 2, she was nominated for the 2019 World Cup, her first World Cup. At the World Cup, she was used in the five Norwegian games. In the first group game against Nigeria , she scored the first tournament goal for the Norwegians (final score 3-0). With a 3-0 defeat against England in the quarter-finals, she and her team were eliminated and thus also missed the 2020 Olympic Games .
