Venues

The final round of the 14th U-19 European Women's Football Championship was held in Italy from May 30 to June 11, 2011 . Eight teams competed against each other first in a group stage in two groups and then in the knockout system . Players born on January 1, 1992 or later were eligible to play. The game was played in the cities of Bellaria-Igea Marina , Cervia , Forlì and Imola in Emilia-Romagna . The tournament also served as qualification for the 2012 U-20 World Cup in Japan . The four best teams qualified for the world championship. Germany, Italy, Norway and Switzerland qualified with the semi-finals. The German team won the final with an 8-1 record victory against Norway.

qualification

Italy was automatically qualified to host. The remaining 45 registered national teams were divided into eleven groups of four teams each. Germany received a wild card for the first qualifying round. The group winners and runners-up automatically reached the second qualifying round. There was also the best third party. To determine the best third party in the group, however, only the respective results against the group winners and runners-up were used. The first qualifying round was held in autumn 2010. The 23 remaining teams plus Germany were divided into six groups of four teams each in the second qualifying round. The six group winners and the best runner-up qualified for the final tournament in Italy. The tournaments of the 2nd qualifying round were held in spring 2011. Defending champions France and England, second in the last European Championship, could not qualify. England failed to Norway, France to the Netherlands.

mode

At the final round, the eight teams formed two groups of four teams each. In the group stage, each team within the group played once against each other. There were three points for a win and one point for a draw. After the preliminary round matches, the group winners and runners-up qualified for the semi-finals.

If several teams had equal points in the group matches, the positions were initially determined based on the larger number of points from the direct encounters . If this was the same, first the goal difference and then the number of goals scored in the direct matches were compared. If two or more teams had still been tied, the next criteria would have been the goal difference from all games and then the total number of goals scored. The last criterion would be the fair play rating . In group A, the decision for second place was made in favor of Switzerland due to the better goal difference from all games, in group B it was decisive for third place, but this had no effect on the further course of the tournament.

From the semi-finals onwards, the tournament was continued in the knockout system . Games that draw ended after regular time would be to ten minutes twice extended Service. If no winner had been found after extra time, the decision would have been made on penalties . The regular playing time for all games was 45 minutes twice. All knockout games were decided in regular time.

Preliminary round

The draw for the final round took place on April 14, 2011 in Cervia. All games kicked off at 5 p.m. CEST.
