In 2011 she was nominated by coach Maren Meinert for the U-19 European Championship in Italy , which the German team won after an 8-1 win in the final against Norway. Schmitz was used in four of the five games after an injury to regular goalkeeper Laura Benkarth . In 2012 she was initially part of the German squad for the U-20 World Cup in Japan , but canceled her participation due to a meniscus operation. On April 6, 2017, she was appointed to the senior national team for the first time as a replacement for the injured Lisa Weiß for the friendly against Canada on April 9 . On 10 June 2018 she made her debut in the senior team, which in the Canadian Hamilton with 3: 2 against the national team of Canada won.
