Germania Zündorf (officially: Germania Zündorf 1913 eV football club) is a sports club from the Zündorf district of Cologne . The first soccer team played in the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region for seven years.

history

The club was founded in 1913 and played in the second-highest division until the end of World War II . After the war ended, the team was promoted to the district class in 1947. Two years later, Germania rose to the state league , the highest amateur league on the Middle Rhine at the time. There the people of Zündorf fought against relegation year after year. In 1952 , the relegation succeeded only after the playoff wins against VfL Poll and TuRa Hennef . A year later it went down to the district class, before being promoted again in 1958. With the introduction of the Association League in 1956, however, the State League was only the second highest amateur league.

In 1961, Germania reached its sporting zenith in fourth place. At the same time, the Zündorf team qualified for the West German Cup , in which the team was only slightly defeated 1: 2 in the first round to 1. FC Köln after leading 1-0 at half-time. Finally, Germania had to relegate back to the district class in 1964, and for the 1966/67 season they returned to the regional league. At the end of the 1970s, more successful times began again. In 1978, the Zündorf team rose to the state league and two years later made the leap into the association league. Germania stayed there for three years before moving to the state league in 1983 as the bottom of the table.

It was the first of three relegations in a row that brought the team to the district league A in 1985. Germania then became the elevator team within the Cologne district leagues. In 2005 the club reached its sporting low point with the descent into the district league C. Since being promoted again in 2010, Germania has been competing in the district league B. In 2008, the Zündorf team created Lisa Schmitz, a U-17 European champion .
