Laura Anna Benkarth (born October 14, 1992 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German soccer player who has been under contract with FC Bayern Munich since 2018 .

Career

Laura Benkarth began playing soccer at SV Biengen and joined the youth department of SC Freiburg via FC Wolfenweiler-Schallstadt in 2008, where she initially played for the B-Juniors . In 2009 she moved up to the Bundesliga team as the second goalkeeper and made her debut on September 20, 2009 (1st matchday) in the 0-1 defeat in the home game against FF USV Jena in the Bundesliga. Only used three times in its inaugural season in the senior sector, it was used six times in the following season and twelve times in 2011/12. From the 2012/13 season she was Freiburg's undisputed number one goal and was also named captain of her team in the summer of 2014 . Laura Benkarth moved to FC Bayern Munich for the 2018/19 season .

A few weeks after the announcement of her move to Munich, she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the game against Werder Bremen and had to be replaced injured. SC Freiburg won the game 3-0, but it was Laura Benkarth's last game in the SC jersey.

She made her debut for the first team of FC Bayern Munich on April 17, 2019 in a 1-1 draw in the away game against SC Sand on the 19th matchday earlier.

National team

Benkarth played for the first time an international match for the DFB on May 11, 2008 in the 6-0 victory of the U-16 juniors against Denmark . After she made her debut on April 14, 2009 in the 6-0 victory of the U-17 national team against the selection of Switzerland, she won the European Championship in the same year , but was not used as a substitute goalkeeper. With the U-19 national team , she took part in the European Championship in Macedonia in 2010 , where the team failed in the semifinals to the eventual tournament winners France with 5-3 on penalties . In the same year she was part of the national team that won the U-20 World Cup in her own country, but remained the third goalkeeper behind Almuth Schult and Desirée Schumann, but without a commitment. At the U-20 World Cup in Japan in 2012 , she played all six tournament games over 90 minutes (clean sheet) and only lost 1-0 to the United States in the final . Benkarth was awarded the "Golden Glove" as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

In October 2012 Benkarth was nominated for the senior national team for the first time . For up to 28 July 2013 from 10 in Sweden discharged European Championship it was instead of Kathrin Längert in the squad called and was with the team European champion. On May 24, 2015, national coach Silvia Neid appointed her to the final squad for the 2015 World Cup in Canada. There, too, as with all previous appointments, she was without commitment and finished fourth with the team.

Due to a violation of the Stammtorfrau Almuth Schult she came on 26 November 2015 friendly against the national team of England to their first A international duty and remained clean sheets.

In 2016, Benkarth was accepted into the national team for the women's Olympic football tournament in Brazil. She did not appear as a substitute goalkeeper behind Almuth Schult during the six tournament games. By beating Sweden 2-1 in the final , she won the gold medal. For this she and the team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on November 1, 2016.

At the 2017 European Championships in the Netherlands, Benkarth was back in the squad, but was not used. Germany was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Denmark.

For the 2019 World Cup , she was appointed to the German team by national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg .
