USA - Nigeria 1: 1 aet (1: 1, 1: 0), 2: 4 p. E.
Starting offensive, the favored Americans were able to take the lead in the 9th minute after a brief corner kick and pass from Mewis to Brooks. In the first half, the US added fast attacking football to additional opportunities that Nigeria's goalkeeper Alaba Jonathan didn't always look safe; Overall, the Falconets tried rather than promised. After changing sides, Nigeria acted more viciously - 26 fouls compared to 5 in the USA speak for both the willingness to work and the lack of playful means. The Americans withdrew further and came closer to goal through set pieces: Their 16 corner kicks versus 7 for Nigeria demonstrate this as well as the lower ball possession rate of 48 percent for the USA. With Nigeria's only free kick close to the goal, Helen Ukaonu was able to overcome US goalkeeper Bianca Henninger in the 79th minute, helping Nigeria's efforts to equalize to a success. Until the extension, Henninger had to distinguish himself several times to prevent another goal; the Falconets have played more safely since the substitution of Esther Sunday.
In overtime, Alaba Jonathan was able to demonstrate class by thwarting some of the goalscoring chances of the US team, which gained offensive power again thanks to the substitution of the fast Meg Morris. However, the USA could not restore their superiority in the first half in extra time, and Nigeria also had scoring opportunities, especially oparanozie, who shot the ball wide in front of Henninger. In the penalty shootout, Alaba Jonathan was able to save the first shot. It was then, however, strange that Esther Sundays played against Bianca Henninger: Sunday could not convert in two attempts, but the English referee Alexandra Ihringova whistled both times, apparently because Bianca Henninger had moved too much. In the third attempt, Sunday then sank the ball in the net. The decision was made by the American star striker Sydney Leroux's shot, which went over the bar.
The Nigerian coach Ndem Egan rated the semi-finals as "the greatest success of Nigerian women's football so far"
