This article covers the Argentina women's national soccer team at the 2019 women's soccer world cup in France . Argentina took part in the finals for the third time and were able to win the first points, but were eliminated after the group stage as before.

qualification

As in the previous championships, the South American football championship , for which the ten CONMEBOL members had registered a team, again served as qualification. This took place in April 2018 in Chile . First they played in two groups of five teams each in the free-for-all mode and then the two best teams in each group played again in the free-for-all mode. The best two teams in this round were directly qualified for the World Cup. The third-placed team would face fourth in the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in the Pan-American playoff .

The Argentine team met defending champions Brazil in their first game and lost 3-1. With victories against Bolivia (3: 0), Ecuador (6: 3) and Venezuela (2: 0) the second place was taken. In the second round, the first game against Colombia was won 3-1, but then lost to Brazil 3-0 and host Chile 0-4, which qualified them for the first time for a World Cup. Argentina was only third in the group and had to go to the Pan-American playoffs. The playoffs only took place seven months later in November 2018, as the Gold Cup did not take place until October 2018. Opponents were Panama and in the first game Argentina won 4-0 at their home in Avellaneda . Two players from Panama were sent off in stoppage time, in which two goals were also scored. The second leg in Panama City ended 1-1, making Argentina the third South American team to qualify for the World Cup. However, Yamila Rodríguez , who scored one of the four goals in the first leg, received the yellow-red card and is therefore suspended for the first World Cup group game.

A total of 21 players were used, seven of which played all nine games. The most goals for the Argentine team were scored by Sole Jaimes (5) and Florencia Bonsegundo (4). A total of eight Argentine players contributed to the 20 goals in qualifying.

draw

Argentine team venues

For the World Cup group draw that took place on December 8, 2018, Argentina was allocated to Pot 4 based on its placement in the FIFA world rankings on December 7, 2018. The team was able to face world champions USA, Germany or hosts France in the group games, but not one of the other two South American teams. Ultimately, the team England, ex-world champions Japan and World Cup newcomers Scotland were drawn.

There was a 4-1 win against England at the Mundial in Mexico in 1971 , but this is not counted by the English Association and FIFA. The only official game so far was in the group stage of the 2007 World Cup and was lost 6-1. The Argentines met Japan for the first time in the group stage of the 2003 World Cup and lost 6-0. Four years later a 0: 1 followed and then there were two more defeats in friendly games (0: 2 in 2008 in Tokyo and 0: 3 in 2010 in Coquimbo, Chile ). There was no previous game against Scotland.
