Career

societies

Alexander attended Calderglen High School. From 2011 to 2015 she played for Glasgow City FC and won 13 trophies with the club. With Glasgow she took part for the first time in the 2011/12 UEFA Women's Champions League . At a tournament in Serbia , the Scottish women qualified with three wins and 17-0 goals for the sixteenth finals. Alexander was only used in the 8-0 win against FC Mosta . In addition, she was used in the two defeats against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in the round of 16. In 2012/13 she only had one use in the qualifying round against FC Noroc Nimoreni . The Scottish women qualified again for the round of 32, where they were eliminated by one less goal against Fortuna Hjørring . But here Claire Johnstone was standing in the gate. 2013/14 went better for her and Glasgow. She was in goal in all seven games, first in the three qualifying games, which ended with three wins and 18-0 wins at a tournament in the Netherlands . In the last sixteen they prevailed 2-2 and 3-1 against Standard Liège . In the round of 16, both games were lost to Arsenal Women FC . In 2014/15 they even reached the quarter-finals, where they lost twice to Paris Saint-Germain . It was used in eight of the nine games. In 2015/16 Glasgow qualified directly for the round of 32 for the first time, but lost both games there against the Chelsea Ladies .

In December 2015 she received a contract with the Swedish first division club Mallbackens IF . She was used in all 22 league games, remained three times without conceding a goal, but had to allow 57 goals, more goals than any other goalkeeper of the season. As bottom of the table Mallbackens IF relegated and Alexander returned to Glasgow.

There she won the Scottish Championship again in 2017 and 2018 . In the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League , Glasgow qualified directly for the round of 32 and met the Kazakh champions BIIK Kazygurt . After a 3-0 defeat in Kazakhstan, the 4-1 home win was not enough to reach the round of 16 due to the away goals rule . Due to this early elimination, they had to qualify again in 2018/19 , but were able to prevail against the Belgian, Polish and Georgian champions. In the knockout round, they went to Barcelona twice, but first to the Cypriot champions Somatio Barcelona FA , where after a 2-0 away win they lost 1-0 at home. In the round of 16 they lost twice to the women of the Spanish FC Barcelona (0: 5 and 0: 3).

In the 2019/20 UEFA Women's Champions League , she played a key role in helping Glasgow reach the quarter-finals by not only preventing a bigger defeat at home but also at the decisive one after beating Brøndby IF in the round of 16 after a 2-0 away win at home Penalty shootout could save three penalties.

National team

Alexander played for the Scottish U-17 and U-19 teams, for whom she played in the second qualifying round for the 2010 European Women's U-19 Football Championship . The Scottish women qualified for the finals in Macedonia as the best runner-up in the group . Here she was substituted on in the second group game against Germany in the 75th minute when the score was 1: 2 and then conceded three goals. Since the Scottish women had already lost their first game against England, there was no longer any chance of reaching the semi-finals. In the third game against Italy she was in the starting line-up and conceded three goals again in a 3: 3. This ended her time in the junior women's teams.

Her first appearance in the senior national team was only seven years later. She was nominated in June 2017 for the EM-2017 , for which the Scottish women had qualified for the first time, but not used there. Since the Scottish record national player and world record goalkeeper Gemma Fay had resigned after the European Championships , it was necessary to find a new "number 1" for the new Scottish national coach Shelley Kerr . Candidates were Shannon Lynn , who had already played 24 internationals up to the European Championship, and Lee Alexander, who was six years younger, who had not yet played an international match.

In the first game after the European Championship, a friendly against Hungary , which was won 3-0 on September 14, 2017, Alexander was in the starting line-up. But she was replaced after an hour when the score was 2-0 and Lynn came on.

In the subsequent qualification for the 2019 World Cup , only Alexander was in goal. The Scottish women qualified as group winners for the first time for a World Cup final. Alexander only stayed in two games without conceding a goal and conceded seven goals. Only Argentina , Jamaica and Thailand conceded more goals from the teams qualified for the World Cup . Lynn, on the other hand , only made five appearances in friendly matches until the World Cup squad was nominated on May 2nd. But both were nominated for the World Cup. At the World Cup, where the Scottish women were eliminated after the group stage, they were used in the three group matches. In the last group game against Argentina , the Scottish women led 3-0 after 69 minutes, five minutes later they conceded the first goal, another five minutes later they falsified a long-range shot into their own goal and in the fourth minute of stoppage time they also had to score the third : Take 3 from the penalty spot, which eliminated them. At first she was able to keep the penalty but moved off the line too early, so that the penalty was repeated and then converted according to video evidence.
