The Sykes nightjar ( Caprimulgus mahrattensis ), also known as Sind nightjar , is a species of bird in the nightjar family (Caprimulgidae).
It occurs in the northwestern regions of South Asia from Iran to Afghanistan , Pakistan and northwest India, and winters in India .

The Sykes nightjar is relatively small, 22 to 24 cm, with short wings and a large head, the male weighs 58 g and the female 56 g. There is little dimorphism between the sexes . The bird is gray to sand-colored, the top is sand-gray with slightly black-brown spots. The vertex is thinly striped, irregular black markings on the shoulder feathers, the neck band is blurred. The male has large white spots on the wings of the hand , in the female they are yellow-brown. The two outer control feathers have a broad white tip in the male.

The male's call is a steady purr, quiet 'chuck-chuck' both on the ground and when flying, more often during dawn and dusk.
Way of life
Semi -deserts with scattered thorn plants as well as dry, stony bushland or gravelly or loamy plains are settled.
The food consists of moths , beetles and other insects up to 2 cm in size .
The breeding season is between March and May.
Hazardous situation
The Sykes nightjar is not considered to be endangered ( Least Concern ).
