This article covers the Australia women's national soccer team at the 2019 women's soccer world cup in France . Australia took part in the finals for the seventh time. In the round of 16, the Australians failed on penalties to ex-world champions Norway

qualification

As before, the Asian Cup , which was held in Jordan in 2018, served as qualification for the World Cup finals for the Asian teams . As runner-up in the previous event, Australia was automatically qualified.

National coach Alen Stajcic nominated for the championship 23 players, including 16 players who were already part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup.

The Australian team only had a goalless draw against South Korea in their first game . This was followed by an 8-0 win against Vietnam and a 1-1 draw in the last game against defending champions Japan . This meant that Australia was the group winners in the semi-finals due to the more goals they had scored against Vietnam and had qualified for the World Cup finals. The opponent in the semifinals was Thailand . The Australians took the lead in the 17th minute with an own goal by a Thai defender, but received the equalizer three minutes later and fell behind in the 63rd minute. It was only in the first minute of stoppage time that Alanna Kennedy managed to equalize in the majority - a Thai woman received a yellow-red card in the 72nd minute . After a goalless overtime there was a penalty shoot-out , in which Emily van Egmond and record scorer Lisa De Vanna missed, but since three Thai women failed to score either, Australia won the penalty shoot-out 3-1. In the final there was a new edition of the final against Japan in 2014 and, like four years earlier, the East Asians won 1-0, with Elise Kellond-Knight unable to convert a penalty to the Australian lead in the 14th minute.

Eighteen players were used in the tournament, but only Emily van Egmond , Alanna Kennedy Samantha Kerr , Chloe Logarzo and Kyah Simon took part in all five games.

The Australian players scored a total of 10 goals and also benefited from an own goal by a Thai in the semi-finals. The most goals for the Australian team were scored by Samantha Kerr (3), Alanna Kennedy and Hayley Raso (2 each). A total of six Australian players scored in the tournament.

At world championships there have been three games with one win and two losses. There have been seven games against Italy so far with two wins, two draws (one lost on penalties) and three defeats, but no World Cup game yet. Jamaica has never been an opponent of the Australians.
