Katrina-Lee Gorry (born August 13, 1992 in Brisbane ) is an Australian soccer player who is under contract with Utah Royals FC . In 2014 she was named Asia's Soccer Player of the Year .

Career

society

From 2009 to 2012 Gorry played one season each for the Australian first division clubs Melbourne Victory , Adelaide United and again Melbourne Victory. In the summer of 2012 she moved to the Canadian W-League participant Ottawa Fury , with whom she was able to secure the championship. In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons she was under contract with Brisbane Roar and moved from there for the 2014 season to the NWSL participant FC Kansas City , with whom she won the NWSL championship at the end of the season. For the 2014/15 season of the Australian W-League Gorry returned to Brisbane. In the Australian winter of 2018, she made another detour to the NWSL, this time to Utah Royals FC .

National team

Gorry made his debut on July 11, 2012 under Tom Sermanni in the Australian national team .

In May 2014 she was nominated for the 2014 Asian women's soccer championship . She was used in the five games, scored three goals and reached the final against world champions Japan with her team , but could not defend the title. The team had already qualified for the 2015 World Cup when they reached the semi-finals. On May 12, 2015 she was nominated for the 2015 Australian World Cup squad . At the World Cup, she was in the starting line-up in the three group games, but was replaced each time. In the round of 16 against Brazil she was not in the starting line-up, but was substituted on in the 72nd minute. The end came in the quarter-finals against defending champions Japan , who lost 1-0 as in the Asian Cup. Here she was back in the starting line-up, but was replaced in the 76th minute.

At the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games , they were able to return the favor, defeating the Japanese 3-1 and qualifying for the Olympic Games, whereas the Japanese missed the Games. In Brazil , it was used in the group matches and in the quarter-finals against the hosts. The semifinals were only missed by a penalty shoot-out defeat , being one of the two Australian shooters who failed to convert her penalty.

She was used in the group matches and in the semifinals of the 2018 Asian Women's Cup . With a win against Vietnam, the Australians had reached the semi-finals and thus qualified for the 2019 World Cup, the final was lost to Japan like four years earlier without them.

An injury at the end of the year prevented her participation in the Cup of Nations at the end of February / beginning of March 2019. On April 5, she was substituted on in the final minute of the 3-5 defeat against the USA and on May 14, 2019 for the World Cup nominated. She was substituted on in the first game against Italy when the score was 1: 1 in the 69th minute and had to accept the goal with her team in the fifth minute of stoppage time to make the final score 1: 2.
